We are pleased to publish the video of the Masterclass lectured by Dr. Francesco Zampieri of the Italian Navy (Naval Reserve). In this Masterclass on the Italian Regia Marina Militare, our distinguished lecturer, Dr. Franceso Zampieri, explains in great detail the naval campaign that was fought between the Italian Royal Navy (Regia Marina) supported by other Axis naval and air forces against the British Royal Navy, supported by other allied naval forces, such as Australia, the Netherlands, Poland and Greece. American naval and air units joined the Allies side in 1942. The raid against Taranto, aka known as the Battle of Taranto, marked a definitive change in the balance of the naval war scenario in the Mediterranean Sea.
Dr. Francesco Zampieri holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy. Since 2002, he is a freelance lecturer at the Naval Staff College, in Venice, dealing with maritime and naval strategy. He is a lecturer of Sea Power and International Relations at the Master of Ca’ Fóscari University in Strategic Studies and Global Security since 2017. Since September 2018 he is a freelance lecturer of Maritime and Naval Strategy at the Master in Geopolitics and Global Security of “La Sapienza”- University of Rome.
Dr. Zampieri’s research is devoted to study the influence of Sea Power in nowadays life, the role of maritime environment on economic systems and international security. He is author of several books and articles, among which we highlight:
– «Elementi di Strategia Marittima» (Maritime Strategic Elements), published by Nuova Cultura in 2019;
– «Italy, 1861-1914: did the sea build a State and an Empire?», The Sea in History. Modern World, Boydell & Brewer, 2017.
